Conditions Treated by Our Optometrist in Conway

Here at Vaught Eye Associates our optometrists in Conway can treat a wide range of eye diseases and disorders, many of which require the earliest possible treatment to prevent serious vision loss. The conditions we treat include:

Glaucoma – Glaucoma destroys the optic nerves that relay visual data to the brain. High intraocular fluid pressure is usually the cause. We can slow or arrest the damage through oral medications, special eye drops and other methods.

Macular Degeneration – Macular degeneration is an age-related problem that causes the macula to become progressively destroyed, robbing you of your central vision. We can prescribe injectable medications and nutritional support programs to help you get your macular degeneration under control.

Diabetic Retinopathy – Diabetic retinopathy is a weakening of the retinal blood vessels caused by high blood sugar. This condition causes impaired eyesight due to bleeding in the eye. We will urge you to get your diabetes treated and may suggest injectable drug therapy or laser therapy to control the bleeding.

Cataracts – Cataracts occur then the lenses of your eyes grow opaque and yellowish, causing visual “halos,” blurred vision and poor night/color vision. We can prescribe corrective lenses to help you cope and recommend cataract removal surgery if necessary, providing pre-operative and post-operative care.

Dry Eye – Dry eye may be caused by medications, underlying illnesses, malfunctioning tear glands, wind, dry air, dust or other factors. Our eye doctor can prescribe soothing eye drops, advise you on dealing with other underlying medical issues, and recommend best practices for keeping your eyes moist.

Computer Vision Syndrome – Computer vision syndrome is an occupational/lifestyle hazard associated with non-stop computer monitor or mobile device usage. Your eyes only blink at a fraction of their usual frequency when you’re staring at the screen, causing insufficient tear production and eye irritation. Additionally, the glare from the screen can cause eye fatigue, strain and headaches. Our eye doctor can counsel you on how to rest your eyes while possibly recommending tinted lenses for healthier computer use.

Eye Injuries/Foreign Bodies – The delicate tissues of the eye can be injured in any number of ways, from scratches on the cornea due to foreign body infiltration to exposure to corrosive or caustic substances. If you’ve injured your eye, come to Vaught Eye Associates for an immediate assessment and treatment. If your eye needs more extensive treatment than we can provide or you’re also suffering from injuries to other parts of the body, our optometrist in Conway may refer you to an emergency clinic.

Eye Infections – Eye infections such as conjunctivitis are both uncomfortable and potentially damaging to the eye. We can soothe your symptoms and tame bacterial infections with antibiotics.
